Woodcut has always maintained a close relationship with the real society, and its footprints can be seen in the scenes of democracy and political reform. Left-wing artists use the dramatic tension produced by woodcuts and their timely prints to state their political ideas.
In 2019, a woodcut project was launched to record the anti-power movement in Hong Kong. It is expected that the exhibitions in Hong Kong and Japan will be cancelled due to the passage of the National Security Law.
The blank paper displayed at the scene is a silent cry to totalitarianism, and the prints are a reminder of how precious freedom is.
